The schools thriving combination of rich heritage and modern interest is shown in the ‘House Competitions’ and weekly House Events ranging from House Netball to House Lip Sync Battles. These team-building exercises arm students with invaluable skills and esteem to help them succeed in all aspects of adult life.

King Edward VI Five Ways School gives students access to multiple activities with its Outdoor Education such as kayaking and rock climbing and is the largest Duke of Edinburgh Award centre in the midlands.

learning library knowledge

King Edward VI Five Ways has 180 Year 7 places allocated by catchment and entrance exam scores. Limited places, in comparison to the high number of applications, makes attaining a place quite competitive.

It is crucial that students familiarise themselves with the exam style and the educational environment to have the best chance in the exam. The GL format is different from the standard curriculum of most primary schools, so extra revision and practice are key to success.

THE EXAM

King Edward VI Five Ways School is part of the King Edward VI Foundation and the King Edward VI Academy Trust. All schools within the consortium take the same exam on the same day.

The exam takes place in September 2024. It consists of two 60-minute-long papers dived into 4 sections:

  • English Comprehension

  • Verbal Reasoning

  • Mathematics

  • Non-verbal Reasoning

There will be a thirty-minute break in between the papers with the opportunity for students to eat a snack and freshen up. For more information on what the GL exams entail see our Exams page!
