KING EDWARD VI HANDSWORTH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls was founded in 1911 from the merger of three Birmingham schools. It has a long and respected history of providing girls with determination, integrity, and intellectual curiosity as well as an excellent education. The school nurtures students’ individuality and creativity supporting pupils in achieving all their goals, and in building crucial invaluable skills and self-esteem to aid them throughout their lives
The extra-curricular timetable changes based on seasonal activities but year-round includes a range of activities in sports, music, and the arts. The school aims to give each student a place they can shine and excel with its commitment to giving students numerous opportunities to experience and learn outside of their outstanding academic curriculum.
The school also offers a ski trip every two years for years 10-13 across Europe and even North America travelling to New England in USA and Quebec in Canada. This is not the only abroad trip organised by the school. In 2017 and 2019 a group went to Sri Lanka and Borneo in a ‘Far Frontiers’ expedition.
King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls has 192 Year 7 places with priority given based on exam scores and catchment area. It is a highly competitive school to gain placement for having hundreds of applicants each year.
The testing format of GL papers is not covered in the standard primary curriculum and so it is essential that prospective students of King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls acquaint themselves with the exam style and procedure to illustrate their academic potential best on the exam day.
